Department of Mathematics at NUST School of Natural Sciences (SNS) is currently offering the following programmes in Mathematics & Statistics:
Postgraduate Programmes:
- Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Mathematics & Statistics
- Master of Science (MS) in Mathematics & Statistics
Undergraduate Programmes:
- Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mathematics
SNS launched a four year Mphil leading to PhD programme in 2004. In 2012, the structure of the programme was revised and separate programmes at MPhil (now MS) and PhD levels were introduced. In total there are 30 credit hours in MS programme. This includes 24 credit hours of course work and 6 credit hours are reserved for research. The PhD programme comprises 18 credit hour coursework and 30 credit hour thesis. After completing course work, PhD students are required to pass comprehensive exam as per the NUST policy. The course work of the programmes is designed keeping in view the international standards, HEC guidelines and the national requirements. After completion of MS in Mathematics interested students get admissions in foreign and local universities easily which is indicative of the fact that our degrees meet the international standards.

BS Mathematics programme was launched in 2010 which is a four year programme in-line with the requirements of the Higher Education Commission for award of degree. The course work of BS Mathematics is designed according to the vision of NUST (See Vision and Mission of NUST) and guidelines of the Higher Education Commission. The programme envisages uplifting of the standards of higher education in mathematics in Pakistan and is in complete sync with fast growing technological revolution. The courses included in this programme are a fine blend of core, pure and applied mathematics.
The main theme of the programmes is to train students in various fields of Mathematics for their better understanding of of the subject which leads to lifelong successful careers.

The department of mathematics at the School of Natural Sciences (SNS) is the oldest department among all the departments functioning under the umbrella of the school. At the time of establishment in 2004, SNS introduced Mphil leading to PhD programme in Mathematics. Growing up with time, now the department is running programmes at all levels, i.e. BS, MS, and PhD in Mathematics & Statistics. So far the department has produced more than 350 graduates including 32 PhDs. Since the beginning, the main focus of the department is to groom students morally, academically, and socially. My advice to all students of the department is to be diligent in their academics and utilize time to acquire heights of glory on their way to achieving goals without compromising on extra and co-curricular activities. I wish all of my students a nice stay and a rewarding learning experience here at SNS. May Allah help them in becoming good human beings and a valued resource for the country.
